Plaza de la Villa Square
This small and quiet Square (or Plaza in spanish) once was the centre of all business, social and political affairs for the city of Madrid. I was impressed to see the three main buildings located on the square were built in three different styles representing a thousand years of architectural history.
- Lujanes House and Tower is the oldest registered building in Madrid (supposedly initially built around the 13th century)
- Casa de Cisneros House, this palace was constructed in the mid-15 hundreds
- Casa de la Villa City Hall was for three centuries the official town-hall for Madrid and was raised in the late 17th century
Excellent place to take your travel pictures of what truly Madrid looked like many years ago. There aren’t many restaurants or bars on the actual square but within a 5 minute walk you’ve got San Miguel´s market which is an excellent place to try local cuisine.
